12. When I walked the world
– Part sea shanty, part drinking song. I was trying to learn the lovely old Italian anarchist song “Addio Lugano Bella” on the accordion when I found my fingers playing something rather different (I do not play the accordion well although, in my defence, I play it better than I play bassoon). For the lyric, I imagined two old friends at the end of their days making plans to meet up for a drink in the afterlife. You may be pleased to hear that, in my vision of the afterlife, there is a well-stocked bar. And it never closes.
